The 4600E/000A is the 40 mm steel Fiftysix self-winding. Vacheron Constantin introduced the Fiftysix collection in 2018, inspired by reference 6073 of 1956, from which it takes its name.
Its signature features are the lugs, shaped after a branch of the Maltese cross, and a classical dial with a date at three o'clock.
Inside is the in-house self-winding calibre 1326, with a power reserve of about 48 hours. The 22 ct gold rotor is openworked in the shape of the Maltese cross and is visible through the display back.
The Fiftysix was usually supplied on a leather strap; the collection also includes pink-gold versions and other complications, such as a day-date and a complete calendar.
On a pre-owned example we look at the dial, on which any damage stands out, at the crystal and at polishing marks on the round case and the lugs. We check the movement, date setting and the condition of the strap and buckle.
We also state whether box and certificate are included; how that affects the assessment is explained in our guide to having a watch valued.
