The 16202ST is the Royal Oak 'Jumbo' Extra-Thin that Audemars Piguet introduced in 2022, fifty years after the first Royal Oak. It succeeds the 15202ST and holds on to what defines the Jumbo: 39 mm, a case about 8 mm thick, no seconds hand, a date at three o'clock and a Petite Tapisserie dial, in the steel version in the original's dark blue shade 'Bleu Nuit, Nuage 50'.
The big difference is inside. Calibre 7121 replaces the 2121, with a higher frequency, 4 Hz against 2.75 Hz, and a power reserve of about 55 hours against about 40 hours. The first examples carried a gold rotor commemorating the Royal Oak's fiftieth anniversary, visible through the display back. The watch is water-resistant to 50 metres.
On a pre-owned example we look at the finishing of the thin case and the integrated bracelet, where polishing marks stand out quickly, at the folding clasp and at the completeness of the set, with box, certificate and guarantee card. Because the reference is recent, an example may still carry manufacturer's warranty; the date on the guarantee card is decisive.
